My Summer Vacation
POSTED  15-SEPTEMBER-2002

Well, today I wanted to change my front-page article, but I didn’t have anything readily written, so I am going to share a little bit about me. I haven’t had a chance to write sooner (though I wanted to) because I was helping my sister move some of her things into her new apartment. She is moving down to Gainesville in a few weeks, to join her roommate, who is already here. She would have moved down sooner (like when the apartment was ready) except that she is house sitting for my parents while my dad is on sabbatical.

They went off in their new RV in May, and have been driving around, mostly in Alaska and Canada. They are now on their way back, and are going to take a few detours before finishing off in Tallahassee. On the way down to Tampa to see my brother and sister-in-law, and to meet their second grandchild (my brother and sister-in-law had a son this time), they are going to stop by in Gainesville to visit me. Which means I have to clean my apartment. Which means I may not be able to update this site like I want to this week, as I have to clean. They should be coming on Thursday. After visiting my niece / nephew and brother and sister in law, my parents are flying north for my Uncle’s wedding. Then they fly back to Tampa, and drive back to Tallahassee, thus ending their 5 ½ month trip.

Then my sister moves down, and the fun really begins. (grin) I’m so excited she’s moving down. The summer’s been a bit hard on her, especially since her roommate moved down. I’ve been trying to go up and visit, when possible, and she’s come down here a number of times.

I currently am studying a Martial Art form called Shim Shin do. I really enjoy it, and in fact, just tested for (and got) my brown belt last week. I was kinda nervous about the testing because it was with Grandmaster Barriga, the founder of the art, but apparently I did very well. I think I had psyched myself out about the testing, because I mean, THE FOUNDER OF THE ART was running it, but I forgot that I knew what I was doing. So, other than it being a pain (literally) because we were working on a middle school gym floor, I done good.

Oh, my husband is also working on the more technical side of our server yesterday and today, so that has limited my time to update my page. Sorry. And I know this is a little early for a forewarning, but since I’m so psyched about it, I’m gonna share anyway. In November don’t expect a lot of updates. I will be participating in Nano Wrimo, or  “National Novel Writing Month”. Basically the challenge is to sit down and write a 50,000 word novel in November, beginning Nov. 1, 2002 at 12:01 am and finishing before midnight Nov 30. I’m very excited about participating, and have even talked one of my friends into doing this too, but that means that a lot of my free time will go towards meeting that word count quota rather than the website. That is, time where I am not 1) at work 2) at martial arts 3) in class 4) preparing for shows required for class.  Those things alone take up a bunch of time. I’m not looking forward to not being able to update this site as frequently, and I’m pretty sure I’m going to go through Anime withdrawal, but this is something I want to do. My reason for participating in this nigh impossible task? I want to teach myself how to sit down and write. There is a novel I am working on (that I won’t be even thinking about touching in November) that I want to really finish. I figure if I can sit down and meet the Nano Wrimo challenge, I may be able to apply that dedication to my novel I want to write, and actually get it finished, eventually.

Well, I’ve rambled on quite a bit, and I am supposed to be laying off the typing (my fingers on my left hand have been beginning to ache if I type too much (ARGH! MUST STOP THIS BEFORE NOVEMBER, OR I’M DOOMED!), so I should take preventive action and rest them some more (another reason updates will be slow, unfortunately).

Well, thanks for putting up with me, and welcome to my life.
