Well,
against all better judgement, I have decided to participate
in Nano Wrimo.
What this means is that I will, along with
thousands of other eager participants, set my pen to paper
(rather, my fingers to the keyboard) and write a 50,000 word story
over the span of one month.
So, beginning November 1, 2002 at 12:01 am,
I have the "go" to begin chasing this mad dream of writing a
novel.
I will submit my final word count by midnight,
November 30, 2002. Hopefully I will be able to cross that
finish line with minimal blood, sweat, tears and at least
a shred of sanity left.
Also against my better judgement, I will
be posting my novel as I go. You may find it here.
It will be crap.
I know this.
I know there will be things I want to go
back and edit after November is finally done.
I know there will be things I want to burn,
and destroy forever.
But I also know that since I am participating
in NaNo WriMo, my webpage won't be updated very often. Most of
my energy will be going to the novel. And I want to show you all
that my efforts are focused, and keep you updated on what I'm doing.
I am NOT currently accepting any suggestions
for my novel, no criticism, and no critiques. If I have to
face that while writing, I may just break down and cry. After
November, we'll see.
I am posting part of my creative soul here
on the web, so feel free to read it. Please keep in mind, it
might not make sense. I may jump from one thing to another. I may,
in chapter 3 completely destroy some facet of reality that was established
in Chapter 1. That is what re-writes are for. My goal at this point
is to finish.
I will leave my story posted until about
the second week in December, when I will promptly rip it from
it’s existence on the web, so I can read what I’ve written,
and think about beginning the editing process. Either that,
or think about finding a way to destroy the work completely. Only
time will tell on that one. So, if you do plan to read what I wrote,
you must do so at pretty much the same pace that I am writing it,
with a little leeway there in December.
Well, here it is folks, a piece of my soul:
Charlie's Place (working title)
RULES FOR READING MY NOVEL
Don't tell me you are reading it.
Don't offer suggestions / comments to me
Don't critique what I've written
Don't even mention it to me, unless it is
to encourage me to keep writing.
Finish by the second week in December, cause
that's when I'm taking it off of the web.
By all means, you CAN ask me about my word
count!. I need encouragement, too!
If you are interested in signing up for NaNo WriMo, it’s not too late!
Can you meet the challenge: NaNo WriMo.
Thats all for now, folks.
See you on the flip-side of November.
