The Meeting  (fail; glistening; undergarment(s); spinach)

On that night
Glistening moon outside
We were supposed to meet

In the old barn down the road
Belonging to old man Brown
A country place, where his wife had shamelessly left
All their clothes, undergarments and all, out to dry
Through the day, and they stayed through the night.

Talk about love, and our future
That’s what we were going to do
And pray the farmer didn’t come out with his shotgun
To see what upset his chickens

I wonder what you felt, as I didn’t show up
And I wonder what you think of me now
And I now you’d say I’m crazy
To tell you the reason I failed to come, 20 years ago
Was a piece of spinach between your teeth
The day before
