Promises (brutalize; different; Julian Calendar; satyr)
|
We promise to change
We promise it’ll be different.
Such promises ring hollow in my ears
Apparently the promise of them is the dance of the satyr
Changing its tune when a new player enters
Footfalls paths to escape being captured.
They brutalize,
They beat,
They promise and rescind.
They say on the blue moon,
The new moon,
The Chinese New Year
Or the Julian Calendar
That’s when they will change.
But devil-spawn never can- no more than a human can stop being human
Unless he dies.
The smoking 45 in my hand renders promises held true
They changed at last
When I forced my hand
And now I rule
And promises are mine to make
And keep.
