What is your favorite TV show? I like Star Trek, all of the series. I know I should be too busy with homework and my job to watch TV, right? I actually tell myself it is homework. I have trouble, sometimes, understanding English if the person has an accent, so I try to find TV shows where characters have accents. That way I can practice listening to them.

I also like cartoons, but sometimes those are more difficult to understand what they are saying. I also use movies to help me with difficult accents. The movie I saw most recently was Ella Enchanted. It was based on Cinderella, but was made much more fun. What was the last movie you saw?

Are you learning any foreign language? If so, how do you study?

    I was very excited to get a card from you! I am only taking two classes. I have a pen pal (you) for my English as a Second Language class – so please forgive me if my skill is not great. I will try my hardest to do well.

    My favorite place that I traveled to was Yellowstone Park. My second favorite place was New York City. They are so different, but each is beautiful in its own way. Have you traveled a lot? What was your favorite trip? Where would you still like to visit? I want to see Paris, London and Rome.

    I have not been to Oregon or Florida. I want to go to Florida to Walt Disney World. I understand it is much bigger than Disneyland Tokyo, but the same a Do you like Disney?

Postcard 2

Sam,

I know what the people in class said not to overwhelm you, and wait to hear from you before I write again. But I am anxious. I meant to send this card last time, I like the picture better. Do you watch cartoons? I have noticed a lot of Japanese animation has made it over here. I prefer Tom and Jerry. Oh, and I love Winnie the Pooh. I have a Winnie the Pooh purse. It is stuffed, and is his head. I sometimes feel weird strapping it to my back, but it makes people smile, both adults and kids, and me, so I keeping using it.

I’m saving up to buy a good camera. Maybe if I get good enough, I can send postcards of pictures I take. But I won’t make a card of a picture of me. That would be too embarrassing. I look forward to your first letter.

Hi Aiyumi!

I was very surprised when I got your postcard in the mail. You said you're writing as part of a project in class, yet you're 24 and also work. You must stay busy! What class are you taking? I'm sorry to hear about your breakup--I hope everything works out for the best. What is your favorite place you've traveled to? Where do you think you'll go next? I grew up in Oregon, but moved to Florida because of work. I hope to either move back or travel because I don't like the weather here. Too hot! I like pictures too, but the ones I take don't turn out so nice, either. I consider myself lucky if they turn out at all. I often get my pictures back and have no idea what I was trying to take a picture of!

Hello Sam!

My name is Aiyumi Hidiko. I am 24 years old. I joined this pen pal project through a class. I am originally from Japan. I moved to the US with my fiancée, but we broke up. I have traveled a little on the US, and bought lots of cards with pretty pictures. Now I’m not with David, I don’t travel as much, so I look at the pictures instead. I’m working to save money to travel again. I work in an advertising company. Where did you grow up? Do you like pretty pictures too? I tried taking pictures, but they don’t turn out so nice.
